General Comments

The standard of the paper compares favourably with those of previous years. The composition section tests the usual writing skills: informal letter writing, article writing, formal letter writing, speech writing and story writing. The questions given on each of these aspects were within the experience and competence of the candidates.

Similarly, the comprehension and summary passage were also on familiar subject matter.

However, there was no improvement in candidates’ general performance.
