Question 11
Two linear transformations P and Q, in the 0xy plane are defined by
P: (x, y) → (x + 2y, x)
Q: (x, y) → (x + y, −x + 2y)
- Write down the matrices of P and Q.
- Find M such that 2P + 3Q – MQ = 5I, where M is a 2 × 2 matrix and I is a 2 × 2 identity matrix.
Observation
The Chief Examiner reported that this question was very popular among the candidates.
However, their performance was better in part (a) as than in part (b).
