Question 14
- Two forces T(8N, 030°) and Q(10N, 150°) act on a body. Find the:
-
- magnitude of the acceleration if the body weighs 4kg.
- A uniform beam of mass 150kg and length 4m is supported at a point 1m from one end and a second support has a reaction of 588N.
What is the distance between the two supports if the system is in equilibrium. [Take g = 10ms-2]
component of the resultant force along the x – axis.
- magnitude of the acceleration if the body weighs 4kg.
Observation
The Chief Examiner reported that this question was fairly attempted by candidates.
However, performance was better in part (b) than in part (a).
In part (b), they sketch the correct diagram
Let x be the distance between the two supports. Taking moments about T,they had
588x = 1500 × 1 which was solved to get x = 2.55 m.
