A parallelogram MNQR has vertices M(4, - 6), N(10, 2), Q(8, 16) and R(x, y). Find
the coordinates of R.
Observation
The Chief Examiner reported that this question was poorly attempted by the
Candidates’ due to inadequate knowledge of vector simplification.
The Candidates’ were expected to use the notation of equality, that is, |MN| = |RQ| to
get = equating to have 8 – x = 6 then x = 2 and 16 – y = 8, then y = 8.
Therefore x = 2 and y = 8. Thus R = (2, 8).
