This was a popular question among candidates and their performance in the question was generally good. Such candidates were able to define migration as the movement of people from one place to another to settle either temporarily or permanently. They were also able to name the types of migration as:
- Rural – rural;
- Urban - rural;
- Urban - urban;
- Rural - urban;
- immigration;
- emigration;
- seasonal.
They were also able to outline causes of migration in Africa among which are:
- movement for better education;
- employment opportunities;
- differences in economic opportunities/movement in search of greener pastures;
- movement for better social, health and recreational facilities;
- movement to avoid traditional control;
- search for fertile farmland;
- resettlement;
- religious persecution;
- famine;
- pastoral normadism;
- unfavourable climatic conditions;
- inadequate resources in an area;
- search for peace during war;
- asylum from political unrest.
