Question 1
- Define conurbation.
- Name one example each of conurbation in two different countries.
- Outline four problems associated with conurbations.
- Suggest four solutions to the problems outlined in (c) above.
Observation
The question was answered by many candidates and they performed well in the (c) and (d) components of the question. Many of them however could not define conurbation perfectly, neither could they give correct examples of conurbations in different countries. A conurbation is the name given to two or more towns or cities which have grown to merge as one big city/town and still retain their original identities. Examples of conurbations and the countries where they are found are:
- Lagos - Ikeja (Lagos)
- Cairo-Ugize (Egypt)
- Khartoum-Omdurman (Sudan)
- Midland – Birmingham (England)
- Dortmund-Essen-Dusseldorf (Germany)
- Accra-Tema (Ghana)
