Observation
This question was popular among the candidates but the performance of most of the candidates who answered the question was poor. Most of the candidates who answered the question drew poor sketch maps and poorly located the features. Practising is the only remedy. The poor performance of some of the candidates in the (b) and (c ) components of the question was also worthy of note. The characteristics of large-scale manufacturing industries in Nigeria are:
- mainly small scale industries
- mainly import substitution
- products are mainly consumer goods
- concentrated in urban centres/towns
- depend on imported machinery
- dominated by foreign multi-national corporation
- products are mostly consumed internally
- labour intensive
The Problems facing large-scale manufacturing industries in Nigeria are:
- inadequate capital
- shortage of raw materials
- shortage of investors
- inadequate power supply
- erratic power supply
- poor management
