Candidates' Weaknessses
The weaknesses stated below were observed in the candidates’ scripts:
- Poor Graphical Work
- Incomplete coverage of the syllabus
- Mere listing of points
- Poor map reduction
The question on graph was poorly answered by most of the candidates who attempted the question. Neither could they calculate the total annual rainfall and the annual range of temperature.
Some aspects of the syllabus were not covered by the candidates e.g. drawing of cross profile, naming of hot deserts, outlining the characteristics of hot deserts and ways in which plants have adapted to desert conditions.
Some candidates merely listed points that were answers to the question thereby losing precious marks.
4. SUGGESTED REMEDIES TO CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES
- Practice of graphical exercises
- Complete coverage of syllabus
- Adequate explanation of points
- Good understanding of map work
The act of graph plotting could be mastered through constant practices. Candidates should pick practice exercises and solve them in order to sharpen their skills.
Candidates should start preparation for examination on time to enable them cover all topics ahead of the actual examination date.
Most points which serve as answers to questions require full explanation to earn full marks. Mere listing of points leads to loss of precious marks.
