Observation

This was a popular question. The performance of candidates that attempted the question was good as they understood the demands of the question. Some of the candidates scored low marks in part (b) by writing skimpy answers without further explanation. However, candidates are to provide the following points in order to score good marks.

1. The electorate vote for their representatives who in turn vote on behalf of the electorate. It is a two stage electoral process. First, to elect the representatives who will later elect those that will form the government on behalf of the people.


2. 1. Undemocratic: The electorates are not directly involved in the final choice of their representatives; it is therefore, not a popular means of recruiting political leaders.
   2. The system does not offer wider political participation for citizens in the state.
   3. It is proned to bribery, corruption and manipulation of delegates because they are few in numbers.
   4. The procedure is cumbersome due to the involvement of stages in the voting process.
   5. Final results may not reflect the wishes and aspirations of the people.
   6. It denies the people of their popular sovereignty.
   7. It violates the principle of one man one vote.
   8. It encourages political apathy.
   9. It encourages the emergence of mediocre leaders.
