Observation

This was not a popular question for the candidates as many of them avoided it. The candidates that attempted it performed poorly and scored very high marks. Those who scored low marks were those who could not explain their points. The candidates were expected to explain the following points.

1. It enables us to identify/know patriots/nationalist leaders
2. To appreciate their contributions to the nationalist struggle
3. To know their input in constitutional reforms that assisted in the attainment of independence
4. To enable us understand the factors that contributed to the nationalist struggle
5. To understand how nationalism/nationalists used the media to mobilize the people for a common course
6. To identify and appreciate the roles of the various political parties associated with the nationalist’s struggle
7. To identify and appreciate the roles of the trade unions/pressure groups to the nationalist struggle
8. To understand how nationalist activities led to the infrastructural transformation/development
9. To enable us know/understand the various strategies adopted by the nationalist in dealing with oppressors’ rule
10. To enable the people, know what nationalism meant to those who participated in it and its impact on the present generation
11. Social cohesion
12. National consciousness
