This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was good. They did well in it, but some gave wrong answers such as sense of taste for mouth and digestion of food for large intestine as their functions.

The expected answers are as follows:

• FUNCTION OF MOUTH
• food materials are chewed/masticated in the mouth
• chemical digestion of starch starts in the mouth
• passage of food into the alimentary canal/entrance of food

• FUNCTIONS OF GULLET
• passage of food materials into the stomach
• peristalsis/swallowing    

                                                                                 

• FUNCTIONS OF SMALL INTESTINE
• completion of digestion
• absorption of digested food materials
• passage of undigested food down the alimentary canal                                                                                         

• FUNCTIONS OF LARGE INTESTINE
• absorption of water and vitamins
• excess water and wastes are also pass through it to the rectum

temporary storage of waste until it is  passed into the rectum
