This was another popular question. Majority of the candidates were able to identify the universities in (a) but poor articulation of points made them to loss substantial marks in the (b) part. To score high marks, they were expected to give the following answers:
(a) (i) University of Nigeria, Nsukka;
(ii) University of Ife, Ile Ife;
(iii) Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria;
(iv) University of Lagos, Lagos;
(v) University of Benin, Benin;
(vi) The University of Ibadan.
(b) (i) various ethnic groups of Nigeria were brought together through the Amalgamation;
(ii) there was emergence of the western educated elite;
(iii) Nigeria transport systems, air, road, sea and railway were improved for social integration;
(iv) there was rise of towns and cities;
(v) Western medicine was introduced and improved upon alongside traditional medicine.
(vi) Western education was expanded leading to building of more institutions of learning at all levels;
(vii) there was provision of pipe borne water;
(viii) introduction of electricity.
