This was a popular question but was poorly answered by the candidates. The question required explanation of what the Europeans and Nigerians who participated in the trade benefitted from trans- Atlantic slave trade rather than how it was organized. The relevant points which ought to have been discussed

are listed below.

(i) Trading companies were established by European slave dealers.

(ii) Special ships were built by the Europeans for transporting of slaves

(iii) African middlemen went from the coastal towns to the hinterland to acquire slaves which were sold to the Europeans.

(iv) Slave markets were created in the interior and the coastal areas.

(v) The trust system was adopted.
