In question (5a) some candidates wrote on boy-girl relationship instead of factors that affect family relationships.
Needs of adolescents in (5b) was well answered. Ways of helping adolescent out of his problems was expected inmate selection instead of effective communication etc.
The required answers to the questions are as follows:
(a) Factors that influence family relationships
- Changes due to growth and development age difference affect the way things/issues are viewed.
- Individual differences/behavioural patterns may generate conflicts of ideas.
- Socio- economics conditions of the home may bring crises.
- Family size – the smaller the size, the better the relationship.
- Child training methods – each child should be considered a unique person.
- Effective socialization among family members will generate happiness.
- Parental attitude – love, care understanding and support will influence family relationship.
(b) Needs of the adolescent
- need for adjustment
- need for status/self esteem
- need for independence/privacy
- need for achievement
- need for a satisfying philosophy of life
- physical needs
- love and affection
- need to belong/peer grouping.
(b) Ways of helping the adolescent out of problems
- There should be effective communication in the house
- The adolescent should be treated with respect
- Mothers to devise ways of encouraging their children to participate in household duties.
- Parents should be firm and impartial at all times.
- Definite duties should be assigned to the adolescent to give him a sense of responsibility.
- Opportunities should be provided for a wholesome interaction with the opposite sex by the family or social institutions such as the school, church, clubs.
- There should be proper guidedance and counseling/Sex education.
- Parents should be role models.
- Provision of needs of the adolescent will keep them out of some problems.
