Observation
This was a very popular question and was attempted by many candidates. Generally, candidate’s performance was commendable except for the few who missed type of hajj and instead wrote on rites of Hajj.
The question demanded the candidates to state the types of Hajj and explain the conditions required before performing it. Thus
- Types of Hajj.
- Ifrad (Hajj alone)
- Qiran (combination of Umrah and Hajj without a break).
- Tamattuc (combination of umrah and Hajj with a break otherwise known as Hajj of enjoyment.
- Conditions required before the performance of Hajj.
- The performance of Hajj is compulsory only for Muslims.
- Such Muslims must be of mature age (puberty)
- Another condition is that they must have the strength (physical fitness) to undertake the journey.
- Another condition for the performance of Hajj is that the person must be sane (sound mind).
- Not only that, they must also have the financial means to embark on the journey.
- Safety of life and properties of the intending pilgrim to and from Hajj.
- Intending pilgrims must also make enough provisions for their dependants before embarking on the journey.
- He or she must be free (not a slave).
- Intending female pilgrim must be in the company of a Mahram (husband or unmarriageable.)
