Observation
This question was attempted by most candidates, majority of whom scored average marks. The (a) part of the question required that candidates define pattern cutting as a process, most of them rather focused on defining a pattern. Some candidates described shoe production processes instead of a step-by-step explanation of the process of pattern cutting in the (b) part of the question.
The candidates were expected to provide the following answers to obtain the maximum marks.
(a) Pattern cutting is the translation of designs in form of standard, net and working pattern for the production of shoes, sandals, bags, etc.
(b) (i) Tapping the last.
(ii) Producing formes in and out.
(iii) Producing main forme.
(iv) Producing standard.
(v) Designing the shoe.
(vi) Perforating the standard.
(vii) Producing the net patterns.
(viii) Producing working pattern.
(ix) Producing lining pattern.
