Observation

This was an unpopular question. Candidates were expected to state the effect of racial discrimination and its impact on an African-American family. Most of the candidates who attempted simply gave scanty narration of the story.

The following points were expected from the candidates:

• Statement of the central theme of the play.


• Character identification.


• Mama’s deep love for Travis and concern about his well being.


• Travis’ reciprocal love for and trust in Mama.


• Mama’s wishes for a better life for Travis.

Candidates’ performance in this question was poor.
