This question requires the candidates to appraise the diction of the poet persona. Most candidates were unable to relate the diction to the theme of the poem.
Candidates were expected to discuss the following:
- The eulogizing of the beauty of the African continent.
- Definition/explanation of diction as the use of words, phrases, and figurative language to convey ideas and feelings effectively.
- Images used to convey the sense of sight.
- Images used to convey the sense of touch.
- Images used to convey the sense of taste and hearing.
Candidates’ efforts were commendable.
