(b) Describe the process of making a contact print.
Observation
This was a straight forward question for the candidates. Nevertheless, few candidates attempted the question and the performance was poor. Candidates were expected to explain the following points in their answers:
- Developing tank/multi-reel tanks
- Measuring cylinder
- Funnel
- Brown bottles
- Thermometer
- Washing siphon
- Timer
- Reel
- Film reel /spiral spool
- Film hangers/film clips
- Beaker/mixing jug/graduates
- Film squeeze
- Film wiper
- Stirring paddles/rod
- Scissors.
Place the paper on the baseboard of the enlarger
Cut the negative into strips as appropriate
Lay the negatives on the emulsion side of the photo paper/printing paper
Place a clear/plain (transparent) glass on the paper
Remove the lens of the enlarger
Turn on the lamp of the enlarger
Allow light to expose the negative to register on the paper for a specific time
Remove photo paper from baseboard for processing
Put paper in the developing tray
Remove and put in a stop-bath solution tray
Remove after some time and place in the fixer tray
Remove and place under running water
Take to the dryer/dry the print.
