In part (c) candidates correctly stated safety precautions that should be observed in high jump event. In part (d)(i) candidates correctly named parts of the javelin missile and in (d)(ii) candidate could not correctly name officials needed during javelin event.

(b)(i) Rules Guiding Pole Vault Event in Athletics

- competitor is allowed to start jumping from any height
- competitor is out of the competition when the competitor records three failed
attempts at a particular height
- competitor is allowed only three attempt at each height
- failure is recorded if a jumper dislodges the bar either directly/indirectly
- it is a failed jump if the jumper touches the landing area without first clearing
the bar.
- valid jump is disallowed if a competitor walks back under the crossbar after clearance.
(ii) Resolution of a Tie in Pole Vault Event in Athletics
- the competitor with the least number of attempts at the winning height is awarded a higher place
- the competitor with the least number of failures throughout the competition is awarded the first position
- if the tie remains and it concerns the first place, tying athletes jump again decreasing/increasing height until tie is resolved
- if it does not concern the first position the tie is allowed to remain.
