  • CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES AND SUGGESTED REMEDIES

The candidates weaknesses include their inability to:

  • understand the questions asked;
  • answer questions within the allotted time;
  • mention the starting positions in track races;
  • state features of a sprint race in athletics;
  • state advantages of the alternative method of baton take-over in relay races;
  • state the methods of baton take-over in a relay race;
  • state duties of referee, chief track judge, starter and track umpire as officials in an athletics meet;
  • define what are sprint races;
  • state qualities of a good hurdler;
  • explain incoming runners, anchorman as terms used in athletics;
  • state features of the set position in athletics;
  • state instances when a player is not offside in a football game;
  • state instances that may be regarded as foul play in a hockey game;
  • state duties of the referee in a volleyball game;
  • state duties of the scorer in basketball game;
  • explain ace and lob as terms used in tennis game;
  • state features of racket games;
  • explain the procedure for delivering service in table tennis game;
  • name the types of game arrangements possible in table tennis game;
  • state instances when it is a service fault in a badminton game;
  • explain the procedure for service in doubles table tennis game;
  • list examples of vaulting activities in gymnastics;
  • state faults that can be committed when performing forward roll in gymnastics;
  • state the type of take-off used in handspring, astride vault, arabspring and front somersaulting as gymnastic activities;
  • state faults that can be committed when performing headstand in gymnastics;
  • explain pommel and spotter as terms used in gymnastics;
  • define what is progression in gymnastics;
  • state safety measures when performing the through vault in gymnastics;
  • explain vaulting and somersault as terms in gymnastics;
  • explain the steps involved in performing astride vault.

The following remedies were suggested to overcome the weaknesses:
Candidates should:

    • read questions thoroughly and understand them before answering the questions
    • make use of the allotted time judiciously during examination period
    • answer questions from simple to complex
    • endeavour to go through their works properly before handing over their scripts to supervisors to ensure that their numbers, names are properly documented for record purpose.
