Observation

ThThis question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was poor.  In part (a) many candidates could not correctly list examples of vaulting activities in gymnastics, they wrongly took forwardroll, backwardroll and cartwheel as vaulting activities in gymnastics.  In part (b) many candidates could not correctly state faults that can be committed when performing forwardroll in gymnastics.  In part (c) many candidates muddled up the answers for one another, they took single take-off for double take-off and double take-off for single take-off in handspring, astride vault, arab spring and front somersault.  In part (d) many candidates could not correctly state faults that can be committed when performing headstand in gymnastics.  In part (e) many candidates could not correctly explain pommel and spotter as terms in gymnastics.
The expected answers were as follows:
8(a)      EXAMPLES OF VAULTING ACTIVITIES IN GYMNASTICS

    • astride vault
    • through vault/leap frog
    • thief vault
    • side vault
    • oblique vault
    • vertical through vault

  (b)      FAULTS THAT CAN BE COMMITTED WHEN PERFORMING FORWARD ROLL

    • inability of hand to carry body weight evenly
    • head not properly tucked-in
    • head touching the mat/floor
    • rolling sideways
    • landing heavily
    • inability to push off into a standing position
  • TYPE OF TAKE-OFF FOR EACH OF THE FOLLOWING
