BUILDING DRAWING (OPTIONAL)

[70 Marks]

  1. The figure below shows the sketch plan of a bungalow.

Study the given specifications and use them 10 answer the questions thatfotlow:

 

SPECIFICATIONS

Foundation: 450 x 450 concrete strip at a depth of 1100 from ground level. .

    Floor:           150 hardcore; 150 concrete slab; 12 mortar screed; finish floor 450 above ground level.

    Walls:           All walls 150 solid sandcrete blocks; 3000 high; 12 mortar rendering.on both sides.

    Lintel:              225 x 150 reinforced concrete.

    Doors:             D -.       flush 2100 x 900 x 38 in 150 x 50 timber frame.

DD - double swing glassed panelled; 2100 x 1800 x 38 in 150 x 50 timber frame.

    Windows:        All louvers 1200 x 1200 in 150 x 50 timber frame.

    Roof:            20° double pitch gable with corrugated galvanised sheets;
100 x ~i5 rafter at 1500 centres on 100 x 50 wall plate.
                            Purlins                                       75 x 50 at 800 centres;
                            Eaves projection                       600 from external walls;
                            Fascia board                              150 x 20 all round;
                            Ceiling joist                               50 x 50 at 600 centres;
                            Ceiling height                            3000 from finished floor.

Verandah:       Three metal columns 75 diameter; dwarf wall 900 high; floor 150 lower

than that of the main building.

(a) Draw to a scale of 1:100, the
(i) floor plan;
(ii) front elevation.

(b) Draw to a scale of 1 :25, a sectional view on X-X.

Note: (Assume suitable dimensions where necessary)

Observation

Poor line works, wrong use of scale and poor presentation affected the works of most candidates. The solutions are presented below.

More than 50% of the candidates could not produce the required three views.

Most candidates failed to use suitable lines. Some did not draw to scale while poor presentation was the bane of some.
