Observation
This question attracted a large number of the candidates and most of these candidates responded well. However, some poor responses equally attracted poor marks. The following are some of the responses expected from candidates:
(a) - Art gallery is a place where art works are displayed for public viewing
(exhibition) and sales while a museum is an institution dedicated to helping people understand and appreciate the history of civilization and records for artistic achievement.
- Art gallery is primarily a commercial or profit oriented establishment offering art works for sale while museum is primarily a non-profit social establishment to reflect historic and contemporary artistic achievements.
(b) - it provides a link between artists and the patrons
- it provides avenue of publicity for artists
- it serves as agents or dealers for artists
- it creates an avenue for storage and safety of arts works.
- it helps artists in profitable networking
- it provides a source of income to owners who take a percentage of sales.
- it promotes tourism
- it serves as a catalyst for the development of contemporary art.
