Observation

Most of the candidates attempted this question, though their performance was not satisfactory. The candidates were expected to answer in the following way:

(a) -   Basketry;
-           leather work;
-           blacksmithing;
-           goldsmithing;
-           carving;
-           cloth weaving;

-           mat weaving;
-           cane craft;
-           pottery;
-           dyeing;
-           bronze/brass casting;
-           calabash decoration;
-           beadwork;
-           boat/canoe making;
-           embroidery.

(b) -           Religious belief;        
-                 climate condition;      
-                 infiltration of foreign culture;     
-                 illegal exportation of artwork;
-                 lack of appropriate tools;
-                 lack of funds;
-                 lack of proper documentation;
-                 lack of needed materials;
-                 lack of communication;
-                 government negative attitude towards craft;
-                 notion that craft is meant for less intellects/mediocres;
-                 scarcity of textbooks on craft;
-                 poor marketing of craft products.
