Observation

Majority of the candidates attempt this question. The candidates that attempted this question performed poorly. The candidates were expected to answer in the following way:

(a)   - A 20th Century art style which embraces the distortion of forms and the use of violent uncontrolled brilliant colours.                 

(b)  Henri Matisse;
      Andre Derain;
      Georges Braque;
      Raoul Dufy;
      Georges Rouault;
      Maurice de Vlaminck;
      Albert Marquet.

(c)  Use of colour to emphasize sensation;
      unrestrained use of colours;
      disregard for three dimensionality;
      subject matter cut across all aspect of painting areas;
      colours are used as element to express artists vision;
      deliberate distortion of forms;
      disregard for conventional approach to painting.
