Observation

The few candidates’ that attempted this question performed well using the basic elements/principles of design in decorating. The candidates were expected to answer in the following way:

1.         DESIGN:                            
(i)         Balanced composition of floral motifs in calabash carving.                                  
(ii)        Arrangement of the floral motifs design on the calabash.                                                         
 
2.         EXECUTION/PROFICIENCY:      
(i)         Mapping out and arrangement of the floral motifs on the calabash.                     
(ii)        Skillful carving of the motifs on the calabash. 

(iii)       Proper handling of materials and instruments to produce beautiful calabash carvings.       
 
3.         COLOUR/FORM:                 
(i)         Choice and application of harmonious and contrasting colours on the calabash.    
(ii)        Use of colours/pigments to produce beautiful calabash carvings.   

4.         SUITABILITY:       
(i)         Should be suitable, attractive and decorative.                                   
 
5.         ORIGINALITY:                    
(i)         Should be unique and creative.                    
          
6.         NOTES AND WORKING DRAWINGS:          
(i)         Comprehensive notes and drawing showing different stages of the processes of production.
