| This  question was quite popular among the candidates with majority of them scoring  above average.  Most of the candidates  were able to explain the term commercial farming as required in 1(a).  Also, majority of them could mention  agricultural produce used by canning industry, beverage industry and feed mill  as required in 1b(i-iii).  However most  of them could neither state the aims of International Livestock Centre for  Africa (ILCA) and International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) nor  define surface irrigation as required in 1c(i-ii) and (d).  Although majority of the candidates were able  to describe horizonsA and D of the soil profile as required in  1(e)(i-ii).  The aims are to:
 -     Develop  food crops which are of high quality
 -     Promote  the cultivation of food crops within the tropics
 -     Develop  high yielding food crops
 -     Develop  food crops that are disease resistant
 -     Improve  the methods of processing food crops
 -     Improve the utilization methods of food  crops
