Candidates Weakness

 Candidates were unable to:

  • state the solutions to crude farm tools as a factor militating against the development of agriculture in West Africa;
  • explain the factors that affect farmstead planning;
  • state the disadvantages of farm mechanization;
  • calculate the area of farmland in hectares;
  • calculate the number of yam setts required by a farmer and the amount needed by the farmer to purchase the yam setts required to cultivate whole farmland;
  • define the term brooding in poultry production;
  • state the problems encountered by farmers in obtaining agricultural credit in West Africa;
  • explain the methods of selection in animal improvement.

 

Based on the observed weaknesses the Chief Examiners recommended as follow:

  • Aspects of the syllabus such as farm mechanization/Agricultural engineering,  crop and animal improvement, agricultural extension amongst others should be emphasized by teachers; and
  • Only graduates of Agricultural Science/Agriculture should be allowed to teach the subject in Senior Secondary Schools in West Africa.
