Weakness and Remedies

 

The candidates were unable to:

  • state the effects of acidity on crop production;
  • outline the steps taken in determining soil acidity;
  • name the organism which cause fruit rot of tomato;
  • state the economic importance of maize weevil;
  • state the ways of controlling the fruit rot fungus of tomato;
  • spell technical terms correctly;
  • write legibly;
  • convey ideas in correct sentences;
  • avoid the use of unacceptable social media abbreviations.

    Based on the observed weaknesses, the Chief Examiners recommended as follows:
  • Candidates should embark on visit to agricultural farms.
  • There should be intensive self-study and revision before exam.
  • Hands-on practical exposure and experience is advocated
  • Having a functional school farm should be made a prerequisite for writing Agricultural Science in WASSCE.
  • Teachers should discourage the use of unacceptable social media abbreviations and expose students to technical terms used in Agriculture..
  • Improved reading culture among students is advocated.
  • Only graduates of Agricultural Science/Agriculture should be allowed to teach the subject in Senior Secondary Schools in West Africa.
