Basic Electricity 3, WASSCE (SC), 2019

Candidates' Weakness

Candidates’ inaccurate and in some cases “impossible” readings show lack of understanding in connecting devices and in the use of the measuring instruments involved in the tasks. Other activities to be carried out in the experiments rely largely on the results obtained from these readings. It was also observed that a significant proportion of the candidates could not plot required graphs due to their inability to choose reasonable scales for the graph.

(b)       Suggested Remedies

This weakness can be overcome by:

  1.  exposure of candidates to several practical sessions (hands-on in the use of measuring instruments is necessary as well as proper connection of devices);
  2. stakeholders providing functional electrical equipments, tools, instruments and consumables to secondary schools for practical sessions to ease transfer of formidable psycho-skills before examinations;
  3. teachers mastering the use of electrical measuring instruments in order to offer effective tutorship to candidates.
