    (b) Explain how the steering box back-lash is corrected.
    (c) Explain how a single-plate clutch is disengaged.
    (d) State two functions of a clutch in a transmission system.

Observation

(a)     Functions of a Stabilizer Bar Fitted to the Front Part of a Car

  • It gives the front wheel of the car a good contact with the road.
  • It minimizes vehicle twist when brake is applied.
  • It dampens shock.
  • It provides structural support.
  • It protects vehicle body from rolling at sharp cornering.
  • It reduces wheel wobble.

  (b)    How Back-Lash of the Steering Box is Corrected

It is corrected by adjusting the position of the gearbox in such a way clearance between two mating gears is reduced.  Worn steering gearbox is then removed and replaced.
