Biology Paper 2 WASSCE (PC), 2017

Candidates Weakness

The observed weaknesses of the candidates this year include:

  • some candidates could not plot the graph using the scale provided;;
  • wrong spellings of biological names, terms, structure and features;
  • use of poor grammar to express explanation of terms;
  • grammatical errors in the expression of facts in most answers;
  • interchanging the x and y axes when plotting the graph in Question 2, hence, changing the curve of the graph;
  • lack of understanding in the way questions are asked and how to join them with other subjects and topics.

The following remedies were proffered to overcome these weaknesses:

  • candidates should cover the syllabus before taking the examinations;
  • candidates should improve on their written English;
  • candidates should try as much as possible to spell properly;
  • candidates should read and understand a question properly before attempting it;;
  • candidates should list only when asked to list to save time;
  • candidates should study past questions and Chief Examiner’s Report;
  • candidates should avoid copying answers;
  • the general principles and terms used in Biology should be studied with practical examples.
