Weakness and Remedies
The observed weaknesses of the candidates this year include:
- inability to answer questions on some topics e.g. in ecology and genetics;
- inability to express their answers in clear English words;
- inability to spell technical terms;
- poor handwriting;
- inability to state the function of the parts in a dicotyledonous leaf;
- inability to state the function of the parts in the stem of a flowering plant;
- inability to label the diagram of an open stoma;
- inability to state the differences between the internal structures of the stem and root of a maize seedling;
- inability to make a genetic diagram of the dihybrid cross.
- some candidates could not state the mode of feeding in the listed organisms.
The following remedies were proffered to overcome the weaknesses:
- candidates should cover the syllabus before taking the examinations;
- candidates should improve on their written English;
- candidates should try as much as possible to spell properly;
- candidates should read and understand a question properly before attempting it;
- candidates study ecology and genetics properly;
- candidates should study past questions and Chief Examiner’s Report;
- candidates should avoid copying answers.
