  1. (a)        List four types of clay brick.

    (b)        State three maintenance principles of prolonging the life span of a block moulding machine.

    (c)         Sketch each of the following hand tools:

Observation

Most candidates were able to:
 
-           list four types of clay brick;
-           sketch skutch and spirit level.

However, few candidates failed to state maintenance principles of prolonging the life span of a block moulding machine.

  • facing brick/decorative brick;
  • common brick;
  • engineering brick;
  • felton/adobe brick;
  • firebricks;
  • terracotta brick;
  • air/vent brick;
  • wire-cut brick;
  • pressed clay brick;
  • special brick/perforated brick.

     (b)       Any three ways of prolonging the life span of a block moulding machine

  • adhering to manufacturer’s instructions in operating the machine;
  • ensuring that the machine is firmly positioned on the ground;
  • washing the mould of the machine after use;
  • ensuring that the cooling system is functioning;
  • carrying out periodic/regular servicing of the machine (maintenance);
  • using correct/appropriate grade of engine oil when servicing the machine;
  • using correct size of fan belt;
  • assigning competent personnel to operate the machine;
  • installing the machine under a shed;
  • use the correct voltage of electric power for the electrical type;
  • oiling/greasing the moving parts of the machine;
  • checking the water level and oil of the machine daily before use.
