Question 1

    1. (a)        State three preliminary site operations.
      (b)        Sketch the isometric view of each of the following types of purpose made bricks:

      (i)         bevelled closer;
      (ii)        double bullnose.

      (c)        Sketch a hollow sandcrete block and label the following parts:
      (i)        arris;
      (ii)        web.

     

     

Observation

Most candidates were able to:
-           sketch the isometric view of the purpose made bricks that is, bevelled closer and double bullnose;
-           sketch a hollow sandcrete block and label arris and web.
However, few candidates were unable to state the three preliminary site 
Operations.

The expected response to question 1 is as given below:
1(a)      Preliminary site operations:
-           site clearing (i.e, removal of existing structures, tree roots/stump, top soil excavation etc);
-           site levelling (i.e, cut and fill);
-           provision of access road;
-           provision of site offices for personnels;
-           provision of site workshops for trade personnels;
-           provision of storage facilities for materials;
-           provision of plant and equipment;
-           site planning;
-           site organisation;
-           site layout;
-           provision of welfare facilities (i.e, canteen, temporary toilet, bathroom etc.)
-           provision of First – Aid facility;
-           ensuring site  safety and security, e.g fence, gateman, watchman etc;
-           site investigation.
