Observation

 

Most candidates were able to state two properties of hardened concrete. However, few Most candidates were able to;
-Name a suitable hinge for each of the following types of door:

  • flush door;
  • match boarded door;
  • garage metal door.
  • state one function of a window sill.

 
However, some of them failed to:

  • sketch the cross-section of a straight-flight stair and label the following parts:
  • going;
  • landing;
  • tread.
  • differentiate between a partition wall and a party wall.

(b)        Difference between a partition wall and a party wall
A partition wall is the wall which divides a building into different rooms or apartments while a party wall is the wall which separates two adjoining buildings of two different owners.

 (c)       Suitable hinges for each type of door

  • Flush door: butt hinge, parliament hinge.
  • Matchboarded door:  tee hinge, strap hinge; garnet hinge.
  • Garage metal door: hook and band (or eye) hinge.

(d)       Functions of a window sill:

  • it sheds-off water from the window;
  • it provides attractive finish to the window.
