Most candidates were able to:

-           list types of bond used in wall construction;
-           sketch the given bricklayers’ tools.
However, majority of the candidates failed to:

-           explain the difference between in-situ concrete and precast concrete;
-           list methods of transporting fresh concrete to the first floor of a building.

The expected response to question 3 is as given below:

3(a) Three types of bond used in wall construction are:

1. Stretcher bond
2. English bond
3. Header bond
4. Flemish bond
5. Dutch bond.

(b)  The difference between in-situ and precast concrete is that in-situ concrete is the concrete placed directly into the actual place where they are  needed while the precast concrete is allowed to harden and later taken to the place where it is needed.

(c)        Four methods of transporting fresh concrete to the first floor of a building:

1. By using hoist and bucket.
2. By using barrow hoist.
3. By using head pan.
4. By pumping.
5. By using crane and skip.
6. By using conveyor belt.
7. By using pneumatic placer.
8. By using builder’s elevator.
