Candidate's Weakness and Remedies

 

The shortcomings observed relative to the candidates drawings were:

-           poor lettering skills;
-           inability to produce drawings to a specified scale;
-           failure to dimension their drawings where required.

To overcome these weaknesses, candidates should be well grounded in the rudiments of technical drawing which includes:

  •       students should be helped to become well acquainted with various lettering styles

      used for architectural drawings i.e gothic, old English and Romans.

  •       the subject teacher should introduce to the students early in the course those scale    

      rules used for drawing production( the architect scale and the engineering scale).  
Also graded assignment should be given to enable them sharpen their skills on the
specific application of  the following drawing scales: 1: 250; 1: 100; 1: 50; 1:  
25  or  1: 20.
-           the subject teacher should help the students acquire and develop skills in the
art of dimensioning by posting a chart illustrating various dimensioning techniques in a conspicuous place in their drawing studio, giving them frequent graded drawing assignments or projects involving dimensioning and enforcing students possession  of the recommended technical or architectural  drawing textbooks
