SECTION B: THEMES FROM THE FOUR GOSPELS AND THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES

Question 6:     John 6: 25-40

(a) Explain the circumstances which led Jesus to describe Himself as the Bread of life.

(b) State two basic spiritual needs of man.

This was not a popular question among the candidates and the few that answered it misinterpreted it to be the feeding of the 5,000.  They mix-up the story and wrote irrelevancies which eventually led to their  low marks.  They were expected to write the following points to fetch them some marks:

1. They thought Jesus was one whom Moses prophesied about;
2. He said they were following him because of bread;
3. Jesus told them not to labour for food that perishes but the food that gives eternal life
4. The crowd misunderstood Jesus message because they still thought of bread in physical terms;

But the (b) part of the question fetch them few marks because they were able to mention some of the spiritual needs of man like love, peace, faith, holiness, etc.
