Question 1

 

1. Make the test piece shown below, using timber which has been planed to the following sizes: Two pieces 30 x 60 x 410 One piece 30 x 80 x 600.

 

PROCEDURE (STEP BY STEP)

 

 

 

Observation

STEP 1
Candidates were required to make Haunched mortise and tenon joint for a table frame      (forked tenon). Few candidates were able to make the joint correctly. However, most of them could not make the joint correctly as required.
Each candidates workpiece  was to have two mortises at the left side of the frame with forked tenon and sloping haunched fitted together without splitting.

 

STEP 2
Candidates were required to make stopped mortise and tenon joint at the other end of the table frame. Most candidates were able to make the joint correctly. However few of them were unable to make the joint correctly as required.
Each candidates workpiece was to have one stopped mortise at the right side of the frame with tenon fitted together without splitting.

STEP 3
Candidates were required to make tapered at the two legs. Most candidates were able to make tapered legs. However few of them were unable to make it as required.
Each candidates workpiece should be tapered at both legs from the rail down to the bottom to give 40mm.

STEP 4
Candidates were required to assemble the workpiece correctly and clean up. Few candidates were able to assemble their final workpiece correctly. However most them were unable to assemble their final workpiece correctly.
Each candidates final workpieces must be well assembled and give a smooth surface.
