Candidates weaknesses were noticed in the following areas:

  • inability to correctly define concepts;
  • inability to correctly write IUPAC name of compounds;
  • inability to list two forces of attraction that exist between covalent molecules;
  • inability to write the electron configuration of 26Fe3+;
  • inability to describe the chemical tests for CO2, H2 and O2;
  • inability to state the composition of water gas;

  •

    The following remedies were however suggested:

  • should learn and use appropriate technical terms when necessary;
  • should be familiar with the examinations syllabus;
  • should understand the requirements of questions before responding to them
  • should be able to differentiate among phenomenon, process and agent in chemical reactions;
