Candidates' Weakness and Suggested Remedies
Candidates’ weaknesses were as follows:
       Inability  to:
       -           write half-cell equation for the  reaction at the anode in an electrolytic set-up;
       -           solve electrolytic related  calculations;
       -          write  a balanced equation for the reaction between named oxides of sulphur     
       and  water;
       -        describe the observation that would  be made when sulphur is heated from room temperature till 119°C;
       -           name two gaseous pollutants that can  be generated by burning coal.
  
       The  following remedies were suggested:
-     candidates should read and understand the rubrics of the  questions before responding to them.
       -         candidates  should learn how to explain concepts using appropriate technical terms.
       -          candidates  should learn how to write legibly;
       -          candidates  should be given classwork and homework for continuous assessment;
       -          teachers  should cover the teaching syllabus before the paper is taken;
       -          instructional  aid should be used for teaching students to reinforce learning.
