Chemistry Paper 2 WASSCE (PC), 2016

CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES AND SUGGESTED REMEDIES

The candidates showed weaknesses in the following areas;

- poor knowledge of transition metals;
- inability to balance redox reaction equations;
- inability to state one condition under which a gas exhibits ideal behaviour;
- poor knowledge of gas and vapour
- inability to list two factors that favour the formation of covalent and dative bonds;
- inability to explain separation techniques;
- poor knowledge of processes that are used for purification of water for town supply.

The following remedies were however suggested:

- candidates should be familiar with the examination syllabus;
- candidates should write legibly;
- candidates should use technical terms when required;
- candidates should study and understand the concepts in chemistry and their applications;
- candidates should understand the demands of the questions before responding to them.
