Chemistry Paper 3 WASSCE (SC), 2017

CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES AND SUGGESTED REMEDIES

The candidates weaknesses associated with performance include:

-  cancellation and manipulation of titre values;
- inability to express answers to three significant figures;
- inconsistently reading burette to two decimal places;
- inability to record observations and give logical inferences;
- assigning wrong charges to ions.

The following remedies were however suggested.  Candidates should:

- candidates should be exposed to practical work early in their formative years;
- candidates should adhere strictly to instructions;;
- teachers should prepare candidates adequately for the examinations;;
- candidates should be taught how to record correct inferences showing the correct charges on ions;
candidates should understand the demands of questions before responding to them.
