The weaknesses of the candidates are as follows:

• inability to write a balanced equation for the reaction between the acid and base;
• inability to calculate the concentration of a given solution in gdm^-3;
• use of wrong units.
• inability to deduce correct inferences from the observations in qualitative analysis;
• inability to state the uses of activated charcoal.

suggested Remedies

The following remedies were however suggested:

• candidates should be familiar with the examination syllabus;
• candidates should improve on their study habit;
• candidates should be familiar with separation techniques.
