    (c)        Highlight three similarities between pattern and motif.


Observation

The question was popular among the candidates and their performance was excellent. Nevertheless, some of the candidates were not able to highlight the similarities between a motif and a pattern. They should have responded thus:

  • It is the arrangement of regular and repeated motif from nature. This is done in                  such a way that rhythm is created in colour, tone and texture on a given surface area.                 
  •  
  • Simple/All over/Side by side, Block/Full drop;
  •  Ogee;
  • Diamond;
  • Half drop;
  • Half slide/Bricks;
  • Mirror/Reflection;
  • Diagonal;
  • Counter change/Check/Alternate;
  • Random/scattered;
  • Scaly.

  • Both are visual representations (on fabric/paper).
  • Both are used to create designs/images.
  • They are represented in colours.
  • They are made up of shapes.
  • Both adopt the use of lines for creation/formation.
  • They use of dots is present in both.
  • Textures are achieved in both.
  • They can be repeated severally in a design.
