A majority of the candidates who attempted this question performed fairly well.
Most of the candidates provided answers for the (a) part but could not state the problems facing OPEC as required in the (b) part of the question. Candidates who scored low marks did not include some of the following points in their answers.
(b) Problems facing OPEC:
(i) non-compliance of members on production quotas given by OPEC;
(ii) fluctuation in oil prices;
(iii) activities of non-member countries that undermine the
effectiveness of OPEC.
