  • Study carefully the electrical layout of a living room as shown below.  A surface

  • Prepare a key for the layout.
  • List the quantities of each of the fittings on the layout.
  • Sketch a labelled circuit diagram showing how the lamps in the layout can be controlled independently in parallel.
  • (i)         Mention the instrument required for carrying out insulation resistance test                            for the installation.

(ii)        State the minimum acceptable value for insulation resistance.

  • What is the maximum height specified by IEE regulations for the following electrical devices from finished floor level?
  • Switches;
  • 13A sockets;
  • 15A sockets.
  • State two precautions needed for proper electrical installation in the room.

Observation

This is a test of practical question.  Majority of the candidates that attempted this question could not correctly interprete the electrical drawing.  However, a few candidate did well in answering this question.

  •      ensure that the correct tools are used for the right task;
  •      avoid naked conductors in the installations;
  •      ensure good insulation resistance for the installation;
  •      ensure effective earthing system.
