Elect Installation & Maintenance Work 2, WASSCE (SC), 2018

Question 3

  1. (a)       (i)        Mention three parts of an electric cooker.
    (ii)       State two types of boiling plate found in an electric cooker.
    (b)       State the instruments used to measure the following quantities:
    (i)        current;
    (ii)       voltage;
    (iii)      diameter of a cable;
    (iv)      resistance.
    (c)       (i)        List four parts of a steel wire armoured cable.
    (ii)       State three characteristics of an MICC cable.
    (d)       Using a loop-in connection, draw a wiring diagram of three points of light, each controlled by three I-way switches.

    (e)   List four tools used in conduit installation.

Observation

Majority of the candidates that answered the questions performed very well.

In part (a), performance was above average. However, many candidates did not recognize timer, thermostat and warmer as important parts.

In part (b), performance was good. Most of the candidates who attempted this question got the right response.

In part (c), performance was below average. Most candidates performed poorly in this part. Few candidates got the right response.

In part (d), performance was below average. Some candidates performed well. The question required that each loop be controlled independently in looping form. Candidates failed to recognize that the wiring is not radial.
